    After watching the film activities
     
     
    1.- Who are the following? Describe their main features.
    -Walt Kowalski – he is the main character of the film. He is an old man, Corean war veterane, with white hair and moody.
    -Thao Vang Lor – he is the neighbour of Walt Kowalski. He lives in the most near house to Walt's. He is the son of the chinesse family and he also tried to steal Gran Torino.
    -Sue Lor – she is the neighbour of Walt. She lives in the most near house to Walt's. She is the daughter of the chinesse family.
    -Father Janovich – he is the priest of the neighborhood who tries to help Walt when his wife died.
    -Spider – is the cousin of Thao and Sue.He is into a gang and he tries to introduce Thao into it.
     
    2.- Why is Mr Kowalski angry? Think about the relationship with his sons, his neighbors...
    Because the relationship with his sons isn't good. The person that he loved the most, his wife, died so he felt lonely. Apart from this, the neighbourhood was fulling of asian people, whom he hate because of the memories of the war.
     
    3.-How is Mr Kowalski shown as a racist person in the film?
    In the beginning he can't stand his neighbours because they are asians but at the end of the film the become friends. Then when the gang of black people hunded Sue, he insult them for being black.
     
    4.- Does his racist attitude remain the same at the end of the film?
    No because he helps the asian family and gives the Gran Torino to Thao.
     
    5.- The neighborhood is infested with gang violence. Name the instances that appear in the film and how they act.
    With the Spider's gang, they beat Thao a lot of times because he doesn't want to be in the gang and when Walt threaten them, the shoot the asian's house and after, Walt. Then there is the situation of the black gang with Sue.
     
    6.- When does Mr Kowalski realize that he connects better with the Hmong neighbors than with his own family?
    First,when they invited him to have lunch with all the Hmong family because they take care for him giving him food and some things he needs. Also, when he saw Sue's face beaten.
     
    7.- How does Mr Kowalski help Thao Vang Lor?
    Looking him down on the basement and not alowing him to go having revenge.
     
    8.- Mr Kowalski goes to confession to fulfil one of his wife's final wishes but he doesn't confess all his sins. What's his most troubling sin? Why?
    That he killed a young boy in the Corean war. It is his most troubling sin because he can't forget his face when he shoot him and he remembers it everyday.

    Because he wanted to make them more American. I think they are good because even if at the beggining they were despective but finally they aren't.

    1.- Who are the following? Describe their main features.
    -Walt Kowalski: he is the main character of the film, he live in a street that all are hmongs. His wife has died, and he sons only want the wild.

    -Thao Vang Lor: he is one hmong that live next to Walt. He is a man that do the women work on his house. His cousin is always fucking him.

    -Sue Lor: He is the sister of Thao. She is the first that want to be friend of Walt. She protects Thao.

    -Father Janovich: is the priest of the neighbourhood, he want to help Walt but then he relalised that Walt had helped him.

    -Spider: his is the cousin of Thao he is the leader of a japanis band. He is all the time fighting and arguing.
     
    2.- Why is Mr Kowalski angry? Think about the relationship with his sons, his neighbors...
    Because his sons only want his and her wife wild and he has a bad realtion ship with his sons. And his sons want to put in to a residence.
    3.-How is Mr Kowalski shown as a racist person in the film?
    He dislike chinese, japanis and filipine people because in the war he has fight against that people. In the neighbourhood all are chinese, janis or filipine.

    4.- Does his racist attitude remain the same at the end of the film?
    No he isnt racist at the end of the film, because he realised that they had helped him.

    When a band of black mens and a chinese band were with guns. When Thao didnt want to go with Spider. When Thao returns from the work. When a band of black boys hit Sue. When Walt hit one chine of the band. When Spider hit Sue. When the chinese band shot Walt.

    When they start to eat and recive presents from hmong family.

    He make him a man and he give him work and tolls.

    That he hasnt be a good father with his sons because he hasnt love them and helped them.

    They are funny but a littel bit racist because they put them when he is racist with that people.

    -Thao Vang Lor: is the youger member of the Vang Lor family. He finally becomes a frien of Wally.
    -Sue Lor: the sister of Thao. She tries to be the friend of Walt Disney.
    -Father Janovich: he tries to advise Walt Disney but he refuses.
    -Spider: an eight legged arachnid.

    Because he have killed men in Corea and he have never had a good relationship with his son.

    First they make Toad steal a car, then when he is coming back from work they bully him and after that they shot his home with subfusils

    -Walt Kowalski: The old man who smokes a lot, worked in a FORD factory and is a Korea war veteran, he also don´t like his sons
    -Thao Vang Lor: Is a chinesee or Korean guy who emigrated to US and is the neighbor of Walt
    -Sue Lor: The older sister of Thao, she´s the first hmong who had contact with Walt
    -Father Janovich: He´s an Irish priest who has the mission to make Walt confess because he hasn´t go to the church
    -Spider: one of the Hmong “mafia” group wich are vandals an violent

     Because his wife dead and all the people stay on the funeral like a “party”. He is angry with his son because he has a Japanese car instead of an american car.

     He doesn´t help his new neighbor when he goes to his house asking for help, and he pass off his neighbors.

    No, at first he is very racist an at the end of the film he respect and life comfortable with the hmong community

     They appear in Thao´s home three or four times and when Thao comes from the work they burn his face with a cigarette and when Walt goes to their home and they kill him.

     When he saw that the suffer the same violence as he in the war

    1.- Who are the following? Describe their main features.
    -Walt Kowalski: Prótagonist. Is the main character in this film. He is an old man and has a Gran Torino.
    -Thao Vang Lor: Another main character. At fisrt he tries to steal the gran torino, but at hte end of the film he has a very good relationship with Walt.
    -Sue Lor: The girl which is violated.
    -Father Janovich: Priest. At the end he understands the posture of walt.
    -Spider: The cousin of Thao who shoot Walt

     Because he lives alone and his family doesn't stay with him or pay him attention or even understand him.

     In the first scene in which appears his corean neighbours. He is not very friendly with them until he meet sometimes with Sue Lor.

    No, because the corean family is thankful with kowalski because he saved Sue from 3 niggas in the hood. Since then he gets a better treat from the family and he accepts.

     The gang appears many times in the film. For example to reclut Thao for the gang, when the gang shoot thao family and when they violated Sue. Finally when they kill Walt.

    When he is in the chinese family celebration. He feels like he is one more in the family.

    I think these names are used to remember better their names because he never had chinese friends so he was not get used to that.

    -Walt Kowalski: He is an american old man who hates his chinese neighbours who went to live near him after a war. He has arged with his son and they don't talk.
    -Thao Vang Lor: The youngest son of the chinese family. He tries to steal Walt's Gran Torino to pass a test to be introduced in his cousin's gang. After that he tries to be Walt's friend.
    -Sue Lor: She is Thao's sister. She invites Walt to a meal with her family.
    -Father Janovich: He is a priest who was told by Walt's dead wife to advise and control Walt.
    -Spider: He is Thao's cousin and he wants him to be in his gang. At the end of the film he is arrested.

    He is angry because he feels alone and excluyed from his own family. They want to introduce him in a residence.

    No, because at the end he is friend of the chinese family and they share their cultures. The film ends when he suicide to protect Thao's family.

    -Walt Kowalski: He is the main character, he's a widower old man. He took part in the Korea war. He doesn't have a good relation with his sons. He seems that always is angry.
    -Thao Vang Lor He's Walt's neightbour. He's chinesse and he's 16 years old. He tried to steal the Gran Torino but he was caught and since then he started working for Walt.
    -Sue Lor: she's thao's sister. He wants to know Walt and they end being friends.
    -Father Janovich: He's the priest of the town. He's a young men and he's Walt´s friend and tries to help him with everything
    -Spider: He's Thao's cousin. He's the leader of a gang and they are always harassing Thao and his family. He wants the Gran Torino.

    Because he did bad things in the past and he hasn't confesed them yet so he feels guilty with himself. He doesn't understand his sons and at the begining he hates his neightbours

    When he knows that he would have chinesse neightbours he's annoyed. He either has respect with black people.

    -Walt Kowalski--> He was retired and one Korea's war survivor. He was bad-tempered also, he was racist (at the beggining of the movie)
    -Thao Vang Lor--> He was 16 years old and he worked for walt Kowalski. He was shy and introverted.
    -Sue Lor--> Thao's sister who was raped by his own cousin. She was more extroverted than Toad.
    -Father Janovich.--> He was a 28-virgin guy who doesn't know anything about life like Walt said.
    -Spider--> Toad's cousin who raped sue. A wannabe nigger.

    Because everybody except his (dead) wife, dog and neighbours didn't love him. They love him for benefits like his gran torino and his son wanted his house.

    At the beggining of the movie he was angry because a chinese family was moving up next door.

    The most troubling sin he commited was to shot a little boy in Korea's war.

    -Walt Kowalski: He's the main character of the story, he revange what the other boys did to sue.
    -Thao Vang Lor: He's sue's brother, he help walt to make things. When Walt died he takes the Grand Torino.
    -Sue Lor: She's Thao's sister, Walt called her “Ñam Ñam”. Other boys hurt her.
    -Father Janovich: He's the owner of the curch, when Walts wife died she asked him for take care of Walt.
    -Spider: He's Sue and Thao's cousin. He hurt Sue and killed Walt.

    He's angry with his sons because they wanned Walt to go to an old people residence.
    He's mad with everyone because he's alone.

    He doesn't want his neightbors talk to him, walk on his grass. He doesn't accept his neightbors food, even in the words he said he shown his racist to other persons.

    No, because at the end of the film he accept his neightbors and he helped them.

    When Sue was walking with her boyfriend and three black boys attack her.

    His most troubling sin is that he doesn't know his own sons, because they never had take care of them.

    -Walt Kowalski: Is the main character, he is an ex soldier who fought with the USA against Chorea. Now he is an widower old man who lives in a conflictive neigborhood.
    -Thao Vang Lor: He is a mohng teen that lives next to Walt Kowalski.
    -Sue Lor: Is the Thao´s sister.
    -Father Janovich: He is a young priest that is always trying to help Walt.
    -Spider: Is the Thao´s and Sue´s cousin. He is a gangster.

    2.- Why is Mr Kowalski angry? Think about the relationship with his sons, his neighbors...
    Because all his family have no respect to him and he hasn´t got a good relationship with them.

    At the begining he is always insulting and despesing to all the extrangers.

    No. This attitude change when he start to help to his neighbours.

    In the film appear three diferents gang bands, one hispanic, one asiatic and other black.

    When he go to a party in the Hmong´s house.

    He show to Thao how to work and then, Walt mfind a job for him. Also he is always protecting him to his cousin´s band.

    He has so many but for me is to kill the children who only want to give up in the Chorean war.

    1.- Who are the following? Describe their main features.
    -Walt Kowalski: he is the main character, his wife died and he is an angry man who doesn't have any relation with his sons. He is really racist and criticises other cultures.
    -Thao Vang Lor: He is Walt´s neighbour and he is Chinese and practises their customs. He is being bullied by a gang whose components are his cousin and other mates.
    -Sue Lor: Is Thao´s sister and gets on well with Walt in the end.
    -Father Janovich: is the priest of the film and he confesses Walt after many attepts to make him talk about his sins. He often helps Walt and his neighbours.
    -Spider: is Thao´s cousin and the member of the gang and probably the leader of it too.
     
    2.- Why is Mr Kowalski angry? Think about the relationship with his sons, his neighbors...
    He is angry because of his bad relasionship with the others and has burden bacause he killed any people at the war.
    3.-How is Mr Kowalski shown as a racist person in the film?
     It´s shown in that way because he doesn´t tolerate firstly his neighbours and then anyone who doesn´t share his beliefs. He is saslo against people with other physical appearence, he judges before he knows other people.
    4.- Does his racist attitude remain the same at the end of the film?
     Completely not, in the end he is a really good friend of Thao´s family and spens a lot of time with them, meets their family, tries to educate Thao and helps him dealing with the gang. In the end, Walt dies protecting Thao´s family and thanks him the members of tha gang are finally arrested and he conseider his neighbours and loves them more than his real family.

     The gang bullies Thao or mainly other teens like him that don´t have a huge group of friends which could help him or teens that are inofensive. They chase someone and mistreats him so he can´t defend themselves, they act in group because when they are alone they are not brave enough.
    6.- When does Mr Kowalski realize that he connects better with the Hmong neighbors than with his own family?
     When he starts to be invited for their familiar lunches and they are more interested in their wealth problems than their sons. He also starts to love them when he stats working with Thao and he helps him because Walt safed their life.

     He tries to help him when his in trouble with the gagns and they bully him so he tries to fear them and keep them away of him.

    The most troubling is that he killed a korean kid and many other people when he was in the war it´s because he feels that badly with himself.

    2-He is angry because he hasn´t been able to educate and be near to his sons,he is angry with the hood because some years ago there were living patriots and now is full of foreigners.
    3-He hates foreigners.
    4-He changes at the end of the film, Thao is his friend.


    5-Spider: he tries to be near Thao to have him in his gang. They have weapons, some black people try to rape Sue. Spider´s gang attack Thao twice, then they hit Sue, they shot to Thao´s house...
    6-He realized it when they invite him to lunch.
    7-He helps him getting a job.
    8-That he killed a young boy in the Corean war. It´s his most troubling sin because he can't forget his face when he shoot him and he remembers it everyday.
    9-Really aceptable.
    10- Gran Torino is vintage car.

    1.- Who are the following? Describe their main features.
    -Walt Kowalski: A Vietnam war veteran. He is stubborn and seems angry all the time.
    -Thao Vang Lor: Thao is the korean neighbor of Walt, he is very shy and cannot really stand up for himself.
    -Sue Lor: Sue is a very good person, she is very open, nice, smart, and brave.
    -Father Janovich:He is a very young priest, and is a little bit annoying but he has good intentions.
    -Spider:The cousin of Thao and Sue, he is a part of a gang and he is rude and

    2.- Why is Mr Kowalski angry? Think about the relationship with his sons, his neighbors...
    Mr. Kowalski is angry because his wife died and now he doesn´t have anyone anymore because he doesn´t have a good relationship with his sons. He is also angry at the fact that most of his neighbors are not from America.
    3.-How is Mr Kowalski shown as a racist person in the film?
    The way he looks at his neighbors, with a face of disgust. When he sterotypes his neighbors saying that they eat dogs.
    4.- Does his racist attitude remain the same at the end of the film?
    No, he becomes friends with Thao and is not a racist at the end.
    5.- The neighborhood is infested with gang violence. Name the instances that appear in the film and how they act.
    When Thao is walking home and they take all of his tools and burn him with the cigarrette. They sometimes drive around Walt´s street and just look out the window or flash their guns. When they shoot up the house of the Sue and Thao and when they raped Sue.
    6.- When does Mr Kowalski realize that he connects better with the Hmong neighbors than with his own family?
    When he goes to eat at their house and becomes friends with Sue and Thao.
    7.- How does Mr Kowalski help Thao Vang Lor?
    He helps Thao to get a job at a construction site, and spends quality time with him.

    1-
    Walt Kowalski: he's the main character, he always analizes the situation using his mind and he protects his friend and help them, he's a pensioner, he's also a Korea war veteran and he doesn't have a good relationship with his sons and he's killed because he defend Thao.

    Thao Vang Lor: he's the second character, he works for Walt because he tried to stole The Gran Torino of his neighbor, he get a job in the construction

    Sue Lor: she's the sister of Thao, she also have a good relationship with Walt, she have a bad experience with his cousin and the band of him, they raped her because they want to give a lesson to the family and to Walt.

    Father Janovich: he's the priest of the church, he's very stubborn on Walt confessions, he want to know everything about the band and he cares about Walt.

    Spider: he's the leader of the band, he's the cousin of Thao and Sue, he wants his cousin in is group, he raped to sue and his band and him killed Walt when he was reprimand them.

    2-

    He's angry because his neighbors are Asian and he doesn't like that, he's angry because the cousin and the band are bothering to the own family, and he doesn't have a good relationship with is sons.

    3-

    He always insult Thao and his family with bad words, at first he doesn't want his Asian neighbors in the town but then he accept them.

    No, at first he's very racist but while he's with Thao and his family he noticed that they are very kind.

    5-

    The first instance that the gangs appears is when the boy is walking in the street and one gang starts bothering him, another time is when he's taking care of the garden, other time is when they stole all the pieces of the tools belt and they burn his face and the last and most important instance is when Walt came to the house and they shot him.

    6-

    He realized of the connection with the Hmong family when they start being worried about the disease of Walt, when they noticed that he's spitting blood they told him to go to the doctor.

    He give him a job in the construction, he also give him his tools and he help him when the gang hurt to the sister.

    8-
    We think that the most troubling is that he didn't say anything about he's going to the gang house and he may be killed.

    He uses that nicknames because at first he doesn't like to stay with them of his racism but we think that at the end he says those names with affection.
