1- He has scissorhands instead of hands, he's not human, he has been created by someone and he can't see wrong from right.
2- At first they were scared but then they loved him because he was helping them and giving beauty.
3- The word “handicapped” means someone who has got a cerebral or physical problem and he can't do some things.
4- The answer is a bit of both because:
-Edward is physically different because he has got scissorhands and his appearance scares a little bit.
-Also, some people of the community have prejudices from him because the don't want him to live there because he's from hell.
5- He's special when he does all of things that people want, like cut the hair or the bushes, but he's threat when he is the burglar in Jim's house.
6- Edward is different from all the community because he's gentle, he doesn't want to hurt anybody...
7- They're hypocrital because when one of the women take him to the beauty salon and starts to get naked, then she lies and everybody believes her.
8- Because in the community all the houses are painted with pastel colours and it makes you to think that it's a happy city but it's not like that.
9- The message of the film wants to make us think that we can't judge people by their appearances and have advantages liying.
10- It would be more realistic if the houses were painted with normal colours and the castle was a little bit scareless.
11- At first you think that it could be a bad person but then you realize that is a very good person and he likes to help you.
12- It teach us that we can't judge by the appearance because someone could really different that it seems.
13- The word “prejudice” actually means an negative opinion to something or someone. Discrimante someone is that you don't value someone and in prejudices you criticize someone.

1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?

Edward is different from the rest of the community because he has scissorhands and also because he is not a human.

2.-How do the other characters react to Edward's 'scissorhands'?

They are fascinated by him and his skills with trimming bushes and cutting hair, until he starts to become a bother to the people in the neighborhood.

3.-What does the word 'handicapped' actually mean?

    Mean physically or mentally disabled.

4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)

    A bit of both.

5.-When is Edward's difference from others seen to be 'special' and when is it a threat?
It is seen to be special when he is helping the neighborhood by trimming their bushes and cutting their hair, it is seen as a threat when he starts to get in the way of their life and the big turning point is when he leaves the woman in the barbershop.

    6.-What makes the difference?

Edward has no common sense, he doesn´t have any social skills, and cannot tell wrong from right.

7.-How are the community presented as hypocritical?
The community is presented as hipocritical because the women are all stay at home gossips and the men are all the breadwinners who come home at night and could care less about the drama their wives bring around.

8.-How do the film's settings and lighting suggest that appearances can be deceptive?

The film´s settings and lighting suggest that appearances can be deeceptive, because when you see Edward and his dark hair and dark clothing as well as the abandoned mansion that he lives in, you would think of him to be a mean and scary person, however he is the opposite. The pastel colors of the women in the neighborhood and the bright colors they wear seem to portray sweetness, however they are cruel women and they aren´t sweet at all.

9.-How is the fantasy/fairy tale structure used to convey a serious message?

The fantasy fairy tale structure is used to convey a serious message about how people treat others by their appearances and not their character.

10.-What might Edward's 'scissorhands' represent if the film was made in a more realistic style?

Might how in the society people judge other people by theire appearances.

11.-How are your assumptions changed during the course of the film?

Karen: During the course of the film I´ve realized how the appearance of edward can deceive you.
Katie:During the course of the film, the colors and the first impressions faded and I started to realize even though I assumed Edward would be the bad guy, I realized that he wasn´t, even though that is what is appearance would suggest.

12.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
Karen: this taught me to not judge somenone only by appearances because he could be better person than a peolple i see in the street every day.

Katie: This taught me that looks can be decieving and that you should get to know a person before you judge them and push them off to the side.

13.-What does the word 'prejudice' actually mean? How is prejudice different from discrimination?

Actually mean an unfavorable opinion our feling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thounght, or reason.

<prejudice is different from discrimination because discrimination is making a judgement after knowing a person and prejudice is before knowing anything about a person.

1.-What makes Edward different from the rest of the community?
He had scissor for hands and he was a really good person, who didn't judge other people and that tried always to give his best and to help all the people he knows.
4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)
I think both of them because other people had prejudices and treated him like if he wasn't human because of his physical appearence and he never treated anybody bad of different.
8.-How do the film's settings and lighting suggest that appearances can be deceptive?
The neighbourhood is setted like a perfect place with perfect people when it isn't at all and they behaves like good people when the most of them aren't. In the other hand we have Edward whose make up is so pale and his clothes are like robot's when it's the person more sensitive of the film.
10.-What might Edward's 'scissorhands' represent if the film was made in a more realistic style?
It might be a complex because you feel different from others and you always compare with other people that hasn't got that complex.
12.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
That appearances doesn't show everything about you and that you should know a person before judging them.

He would be as an aislated person who has no friends and live alone. It would have the personality of Edward but wothout scissorhands, basically.

11.-How are your assumptions changed during the course of the film?

Our assumptions were that we wouldn't make judges before knowing a person, what we see doesn't always shows us what we think about.

12.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
This teach you to know a person before judging him/her, because you'll never know how could that person be or act only by looking at him/her.

13.-What does the word 'prejudice' actually mean? How is prejudice different from discrimination?
You always look for your security so you have to be careful when you meet someone or making plans with a person who can hurts you or be a psicopath. The difference between that and discrimination is that discrimination is a way for treat someone different only by who is and his appearance.

    1. He was different from the rest because instead of having hands he had scissorhands.
    2. At first they weren't scared about him but one woman yes because she thought he was the anti-christ. Then, practically all the town was scared about him.
    3. It means that somebody can't do something like the rest of the humans because of a physical/mental limitation.
    4. We think that a bit of both because of the prejudices of the actual society to the people whose body or mentality is different.
    5. Edward seems special to the others when he came to the town because he was new in the town and he can cut the bushes very beautiful for all over the town, but at the end of the film the entire town started to find Edward a strange and weird person.
    6. The town started to see him different and dangerous when Jim convince him to rob at his house. Jim and the others left him alone at the house until the police arrives.
    7. The community is presented as hypocritical when at the end of the film, when Jim lies on the floor nobody go to help him and he died and everybody return to their own houses.
    8. The set is confusing because if it´s a fantasy drama the houses seems to be like a dream or a comedy (like at the begginig of the film, the houses, the town...)
    9. It is used to transmit the message that the beauty is inside and not to abuse of the weak people.
    10. He may represent a psychopathic person and it may be a horror and murder film.
    11. At first we thought that they won´t accept him in the town and also there was a moment that we thought that Edward was going to kill everyone because they don´t treat him well.
    12. That everybody is a different person from the rest and we have to respect everybody, we are all equal.
    13. It means that practically everybody have some type of “view” of the things that they don't know.

4.-Is it Edward's physical difference or is it the prejudices of other people that prevent him living in the community? (Or a bit of both?)
I think both of them because other people had prejudices and treated him like if he wasn't human because of his physical appearance and he never treated anybody bad of different.

5.-When is Edward's difference from others seen to be 'special' and when is it a threat?
It is special when they benefit the neighbours and when they can get benefit of them (for example with the haircuts and the boxwoods) and they are a threat when rumors about the harassment start to spread through the neighbourhood.

    6.-What makes the difference?
The false rumors that the woman spreads.

7.-How are the community presented as hypocritical?
At the end it seems like everyone wants to enter into the castle and kill Edward, but when they realize that he’s already dead, they kind of mourn for him.

9.-How is the fantasy/fairy tale structure used to convey a serious message?
It is used to show the discrimination and fear for the difference that we have nowadays.

10.-What might Edward's 'scissorhands' represent if the film was made in a more realistic style?
A physical complex that someone may have, something they can’t change even if they want, more in the teenage years.

11.-How are your assumptions changed during the course of the film?
They haven’t really changed because we had seen the film before, but when we watched it for the first time, we thought that it was an original way to express the feeling of being different and lonely. We think that it teaches that we don’t have to be hard with anyone, because everybody have their problems and don’t need more.

12.-What does this teach you about judging someone by appearances alone?
That we shouldn’t judge people by the appearances because not everything that seems good is always good, neither everything that seems bad is always bad. There is nothing black or white in life, so we should know people first before judging them.

13.-What does the word 'prejudice' actually mean? How is prejudice different from discrimination?
A prejudice is any opinion or a feeling held before careful thought. It is different from discrimination because you discriminate after knowing the situation of the person; and when you judge somebody basing on prejudices, you judge them before knowing their situation.

It is a fantasy and drama film and the neighbour is like a dream because it has light colours.

9.-How is the fantasy/fairy tale structure used to convey a serious message?

That if someone is different you have to treat like if it´s a normal person, because the apperarences aren`t important as feelings.

1.-He is different in the way that he has scissors instead of hands.
2.-Other people react like if Edward was a strange person but they actually treat him well. Therefore, the christian girl hates him she associates him with evil and Peg treats him like if he was a normal person in her family.
3.- Handicapped is a person with any type of physical problem that can´t do some things that other people do such a person without a leg.

    1) That he isn't a human, he has scissorhands and his personalty distroyed the cliché of the neighbourhood because he is kind, softhearted, humble and generous, things that most of the neighbors aren't.
    2) Most of the neighbors thought that his scissorshands were amazing and something new, they were hallucinated, except a women, she thought that he comes from the demon.
    3) The word 'handicapped' means 'discapacitado' 'minusvalido' in spanish.
    4) A bit of both because his hands didn't permit him to live a usual life in a usual neighbourhood and also with the help of the neighbors edward's life would be easier, because they worsen the situation.
    5) It seen to be special at the begining of the film because his hands were an advantage: he trimming bushes with amazing forms and he cut the neighbor's hair and their pets' hair too. Edward's arrival became the neighbourhood original.
It was a threat at the end of the film. The neighbors were angry with him, and when he try to help, all became worse and worse... For example he injure people unintentionally.
    6) Physically he was pale, disheveled, he didn't wear ordinary clothes, he has scars and scissorshands....
His personalty was different too, he didn't recognize the difference between wrong and right, he was gentle and scary...
    7) The comunity is presented as hipocrytal for example on this occasions:
-Now Peg sells cosmetics to all her neighbours, however before Edwuard's arrival nobody want them
-Peg's family becomes the most popular faamily in the neighbour after Edwuard's arrival
-At Edward's arrival evrybody love him but when he rejects Joyce, she decided to make Edward's life imposible, so the remaining women begin to do the same as Joyce
    8)
    9) Tim Burton used a fantasy tale structure ( it's impossible to have a man with scissors instead of hands, it's impossible to create life and the mysterious dark castle is another characteristic of fantasy stories) to express a beautifull moral or message for all who watch the movie ( including children) : don`t judge by outer appearances
    10) Something different from others, for example a handicap
    11)   I really expected a more happy ending
    12)  In adolescence and even in the nowdays, people are judged by the outside appearance, but this is so stupid, i mean, i never choose a cereal by how good they look i will choose them by the flavor.
    13)   prejudice: an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge or reason. While prejudice is a precomceived notion or a leaning towards/against someone o something, discrimination refers to action or behavior towards these things and people.

I think both, he has scissors on his hands and objects in the community aren't prepared for that type of human but also he could get used to that kind of things with a bit of help. Also the community is a bit hypocrital, because they accuse him for everything without searching the real truth.
13.-What does the word 'prejudice' actually mean? How is prejudice different from discrimination?
It means that you judge somebody or a group of people because you know something about their culture or the way the think etc... This knowledge is predeterminded by the tradition.

1- Edward has scissors in his hands.
2- Edward´s neighbours are very surprised with his fisical appearence and acept him very well in their community.
3-It means something like that you have which makes you work harder to get the same results like other people. It is like an obstacle.
4-Both of them because of his fisical appearence people think that his a bad person and that he is going to hut them. He is frightened about what people will think of him.
5-It seen to be special when hi starts to cut people´s pets´ hair but it is a handicapp when he tries to save people and he can´t touch them because if he touch them he hurt them.
6-For people edwards appearence is good when he does things that doesn´t affect them for example cuting tree´s leaves but when hi tries to save someone they think that he will hurt it and that he is doing a bad thing. he is different from other people because he only want to help people and think in the others.
7-Because they don´t do what they say or think.
8- The film show it buy giving to his character a satrange fiscal appearence that in reality won´t be accepted or thar could give problems to that person.
9-They use it using fantasy charachter because they atract viewers´ atention and help them to remember the message.
10-I don´t know, it could be represented by a man wihtout hands.
11-I fell always bad about what people think about him and about how people trate him.
12-It has teach me that people can´t be judge by his appearence.
13-A prejudice is the idea that people has af a person when hi see it at first time. It is different for discrimination because prejudices are not always bad.
